Journal, in three versions, with varying but overlapping entries documenting Eliza Hibben Leland's activites and religious life; travels, 1856, with family of Aaron W. Leland in Amherst, Boston and Peru, Mass., Bangor and Brunswick, Me., Philadalphia, Penn., Niagra Falls and Saratoga, N.Y., and other places. Contains unbound typescript (70 leaves), "Extracts from the Diary of Eliza (Hibben) Leland," Dec. 1850 - Dec. 1860, originally copied by her son, John Adams Leland, transcribed and edited by Edwin Cater Leland, Jr., 1 Jan. 1968, chiefly passages pertaining to John Adams Leland, including Sept. 1852, Charleston, S.C., re meeting of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in the U.S., and Dec. 1852, re the removal of John Adams Leland from his position at the Citadel by the Board of Visitors; includes extensive annotations and footnotes, list of names mentioned in the diary, and genealogical chart re relationships between the Hibben, Leland, and Dupre families. Also includes microfilm (R165a, b) of typed copies of diary, 29 Mar.-16 Nov. 1853, including entries, 29 Mar. - 16 June 1853, not recorded in the excerpts of John Adams Leland; volume, "Eliza Hibben Leland 1792- 1856) Journal, 1855-1856, Columbia, S.C., 1 Jan. 1855 - 26 Dec. 1856, containing photostatic copies of typescript of complete journal, without footnotes or annotations; and letter, 25 May 1959, Sara Law (Mrs. Tyre) Jones, Canton, Ga., to F.M. Hutson, S.C. Archives, Columbia, S.C., re the creation and editorial completion of the bound volume and the location of the Leland family home in Columbia.
